It is increasingly more important for Australian manufacturers to meet Australian standards, and many are finding that their clients are becoming more demanding when it comes to welding certifications.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? AND HOW DO STANDARDS HELP?
Although it is somewhat possible to inspect and determine weld integrity without using destructive techniques, there is no way to verify the mechanical properties of welds or the structure once welded. This is why being able to qualify welding procedures beforehand is so important.
Part of the weld procedure control includes also welder certification, which ensures that welders comply with specific training and have successfully undergone examinations to demonstrate specific welding skills.
After the procedure has been qualified, the “weld procedure specifications” are given to the welder, and attached to the side of each work station for ease of reference. In some cases the welding machines can be pre-programmed with set welding conditions.
To help our customers meet their required standards, Dragon Metal takes a holistic approach, working with customers, suppliers and certification companies (SGS), to ensure that weld procedures are in place and that the assigned welders receive the necessary training. SGS, has offices all over the world and it is renowned for its inspection, testing and certification services.
WHAT IS SGS?
In China SGS has 150 laboratories and over 70 branches and they have a wide range of services. In addition to their specialisation in standards certification, they also offer factory audit services, RSTS RoHS, Inspection Services, Product conformity and much more.
